Dickies
These Dickies spots were probably the fastest turn around in the history of making commercials. 2headedhorse was called at the 11th hour and asked to basically perform a miracle. Fuel TV needed 2 60 second spots to air next Monday and for whatever reason they had nothing. Had to think fast, come up with concept, location and script. Also had to immediately put together camera ops. I decided to mix a bunch of different camera's together. Ted and Danozone were on board with a 7D and a HVX respectively. I knew I wanted a Phantom camera and luckily Brad Stonesifer was available. Also, I needed a steady cam operator and Chris Taylor came through. The talent was Chris Lambert, playing Slam, and he was up for the challenge. We needed someone else with a motorcycle as well so we called up Patrick Melcher and got him on board. Now here's how crazy it was, on Saturday I directed both these spots and that night everything got digitized. On Sunday we brought Will Carsola of Day by Day to help with the editing process. I wanted lots of natural sounds to help tell the story which we meticulously added. Somehow it got color corrected and approved music came through at the very last second. The sound mix would definitely take to long with just one person. We had to split it up. Adam Harding mixed the "Sewer Surf" spot and Tim O'Sullivan and Sam Plattner busted out the Pipe Bomb spot. In the mean time Ted created the graphics. On Monday morning me and Ted frantically drove to the Network with laptops still putting final touches on the spots and of course compressing the masters! We literally arrived at the network, unmounted the hard drive, walked in, handed it to a producer and it was immediately piped onto the air! This first one is called Sewer Surf.
This next spot is called Pipe Bomb. On a side note, the stunt that Chris Lambert did here was obviously pretty gnarly but we definitely knew it was also makable. So for the season finale of the SLAM! show we went back to this location and Lambert rolled away to victory.
